Biden is Failing Us on Immigration

Spread the love

The Biden team is dropping the ball on immigration. Hi, I'm Jim Hacking, immigration lawyer practicing law throughout the United States at our offices in St. Louis, San Diego, and Washington DC. In today's video, we're going to talk about the changes that have come about under president Joe Biden and about how he is moving way too slowly when it comes to immigration. When we think about what kind of a job Biden is doing in immigration, we need to remember that for the last four years, we had a xenophobic hateful president who did everything he could to make the lives of immigrants in the United States, harder, tougher, and longer to get an immigration benefit. The incremental changes that we've seen out of the Biden administration, the step-by-step approach that they've been taking, which might work under normal circumstances is frankly, not enough for what we're seeing and what we've been through.

We have visa delays around the world, totaling nearly a million delays of visas backlogged at different embassies around the world. We have the Biden Administration deciding to join in and to defend Trump's H1B rule. We have the situation at the border in which the president has done very little to make life easier for immigrants and asylum seekers at the border. And I've heard Alejandro Mayorkas, the head of Department of Homeland Security. Say about how you got to understand. We really just picked up an agency that was gutted from the inside out. That might be true, but this is what you ran on. You ran on being different than Trump. You ran on doing better. You ran on improving things for the lives of immigrants and you haven't done it. I can't tell you how often and how many complaints I'm getting right now under this administration.

Now, certainly Joe Biden doesn't have the hateful spite that Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, Steve Bannon, and Jeff Sessions had, but that doesn't give him a pass. That does not give him a free ride. And that will not result in us laying on him with kids gloves. We're not just going to roll over and do what he says or admit that what he's doing is sensible, because what he's doing is not sensible. We need drastic measures. We need all executive power that we can get to try to undo the changes that the Trump administration has wrought. We need to end the filibuster in Congress and we need to protect the dreamers. So in my book, I give Joe Biden a D so far on his job as president and chief, when it comes to immigration. I'd love to hear what your thoughts are. I'd love to hear how you think he's doing.

I know, based on the frustration, and the sadness, and the bitterness that we're getting from all of our immigrant clients, that they too see things, I think the way that we do. Hopefully change will come around the bin, but don't hold your breath. When I found out that Biden was defending the Trump H1B rule, I knew that the king was gone, but there's a whole new king. So we've got to hold their feet to the fire. We've got to make Democrats be true to their promises. And we've got to show that they are going to be different, fundamentally different in a see change, kind of a way different than the Trump team was when it comes to immigration.

If you have questions about this, if you're as frustrated as we are, give us a call at (314) 961-8200. You can email us at [email protected].
