Changes to Immigration Under the Trump Administration

Spread the love

The Trump Administration has made several changes to the immigration process. Although there technically have not been changes to the actual laws, there have been many changes that make life more difficult for immigrants.

Executive Order 13769

One of the best-known examples of changes to policy under the Trump Administration was Executive Order 13769 or Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States. This policy was meant to limit the number of immigrants from certain countries. As the majority of these countries were predominantly Muslim, the policy was commonly referred to as the Muslim ban.

When it went into effect, nobody knew who this policy applied to. There’s been increased enforcement immigration—the ironic thing is that illegal entry into the United States has decreased. Numbers of those with illegal entries into the US are lower than in the last 10 years.

Immigration Enforcement

There is greater enforcement of immigration policies under the Trump administration. This means more people are being put into removal, but it also means that the courts are so busy that deportations have actually slowed because they cannot keep up with the overload.

They have also worked to limit the amount of people who can apply for asylum. Additionally, they are working to end the diversity visa and to make it harder for family members to come to the United States.
