Last month, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri (LSEM) and the St. Louis Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) conducted an afternoon continuing legal education session for lawyers thinking about volunteering their time to help low-income immigrants apply for citizenship.
Sessions included how to properly complete the N-400, questions to ask potential clients regarding good moral character and admissibility issues and what to expect at a naturalization interview. Jim Hacking finished the day’s presentations by discussing the personal and professional fulfillment that he has experienced by taking pro bono cases through LSEM’s volunteer lawyer program. Nearly forty volunteer lawyers attended the session and many positive comments were received.
If you are an attorney who would be interested in volunteering your time to this important work, please email Jim at [email protected] and he will point you in the right direction.
