Immigrants Deserve an Award

Spread the love

Why do we all deserve an award? Hi, I'm Jim Hacking, immigration lawyer practicing law throughout the United States out of our office here in St. Louis, Missouri. Yesterday's video was shot about an hour before CNN and NBC, and then all the other networks, declared Joseph R. Biden to be our next President of the United States and Kamala Harris, the daughter of immigrants, our next Vice President of the United States. The first woman to hold that role, the first African-American to hold that role, the first South Asian to hold that role, and the first daughter of immigrants to hold that role. It was a very exciting day. I have to admit that I cried a little bit, especially when I thought about the momentous nature of Kamala Harris's selection and the unbelievable job that Joe Biden did in winning the election.

But, I want to give a shout out to all the immigrants. To everybody who watches our videos, to everybody who subscribes to our email list to everybody in immigrant home, we all, all of us, have undergone a trauma these last four years. We have dealt with the most anti-immigrant president of all time. A president who was willing to traffic in racial conspiracies, who refused to denounce racists, who put the people who hate immigrants the most in charge of the immigration service, who shifted all the money out of USCIS and into enforcement, and try to deport as many people as possible. A president who surrounded himself with Stephen Miller, who sat around every day thinking of ways to make life harder for immigrants. You know what? We all survived. We're all coming out on the other side.

Now, certainly untold numbers of people have been harmed by President Trump's policies, especially those moms and dads who had their children ripped from their arms at the border by Customs and Border Patrol and ICE agents, and that was a crime that should be fully investigated and prosecuted. But, there's plenty of time to talk about how bad Donald Trump was on immigration. That's not the point of this video. The point of this video is to honor you and to celebrate you for all of the amazing tenacity and strength and willingness to fight that you have shown these last four years. I'm really, really proud of you.

I think that we have shown the American people that immigrants are a very valuable asset to this country. I think that, just barely, the American people stood up to hate, stood up to intolerance, and told Donald Trump that he's fired. I can't tell you how happy I am about that. There are going to be good days to come. There's going to be hard days to come. I was thinking this morning, I'm glad Joe Biden is the president, but I certainly plan on holding him accountable just as I thought that I held President Obama accountable, but it's going to be night and day. We're going to have a president who's logical, who's sensible, who tries to build consensus, and most of all, doesn't demonize the other side. I was thinking about Dr. Fauci, and I know that's not immigration related, but Dr. Fauci has put up untold amount of abuse from Donald Trump, and how nice it must be for him to be looking forward to working with a president who is not insane and who understands how the world works.

Kudos to all of the immigrants. Kudos to all of our fans and friends. We love you. We'll continue to fight for you. There's a lot left to do, but I'm glad we're all here in 2020, because Donald Trump is going to be shown the door. Thanks for watching everybody.
