Of the total immigrant population in Missouri, 141,797 immigrant workers made up 4.7% of the labor force in 2015. Most of these jobs were in healthcare and social assistance, followed by manufacturing. Of the total state immigrant population, 38% pursued college degrees, while 19.9% have a high school diploma.

Regarding the rate of immigrant growth in the state, there is recent data about the growth of the foreign-born population in Missouri, especially in the St. Louis region. The data shows a rise in the population of immigrants, refugees, and temporary migrants, such as international students. The St. Louis region’s immigrant population is growing faster than most other major urban areas. The Census Bureau found that the foreign-born population in St. Louis rose by 5,640 people between 2017 and 2018. At a growth rate of 4.1%, this gives St. Louis the third fastest-growing immigrant population, after Riverside California and Seattle, Washington. Riverside increased by 4.8% and Seattle by 4.6%. Kansas City’s immigrant population grew 300% between 1990 and 2015, with a current total of about 135,000. This represents seven percent of the region’s total population, mostly in Jackson and Johnson (KS) counties. 70% of Kansas City’s immigrant population is lawfully present, and individuals from Mexico make up the largest sector (33%).
