What do I do if I can't get all the information into the forms? Hi, I'm Jim Hacking, immigration lawyer practicing law throughout the United States at our office here in St. Louis, Missouri, and in San Diego, California. We're getting excited about our new office out in San Diego. I wanted to mention it here.
In today's video, we're going to talk about filling out the forms. Specifically, we're going to talk about what happens when you have too much information to put into the little box on the PDF. When you're applying with USCIS, you're going to have to be able to save your PDF. The USCIS uses fillable forms. All the forms that USCIS uses are fillable forms. They are forms that you're going to download onto your computer to fill out and to then go ahead and complete. And then, you want to make sure, for sure, that you save those forms. You want to always have a copy of the forms that you sent in.
But in today's video, what we're talking about is, well, what if they asked for something and there's not enough space in the box? Well, you're going to want to fill in the form to make it clear that you have what's called an addendum. An addendum will be a sheet at the end of your forms. Usually, it would just be a Word document, and you fill in the extra information that you have. Let's say that question three, part two, number four, section three, part four, number four, let's say that there's not enough room to put in the box. Then you would write the name of that section and question number on the addendum sheet, and you would put in the information.
Let's say that, me, that I've gone by many different names. I've gone by James O. Hacking III. I've gone by James O. Hacking. I've gone by Jim Hacking. I've gone by James Oliver Hacking III. I've gone by J.O. Hacking, whatever. Let's say that there's only three of those boxes. Well, you're going to want to say, "See addendum," in the bottom box, and then you're going to want to put the rest of that information in the form.
The other day, I was talking to my Cracker Jack paralegal, Susanna. Susanna said that she was going over an N-400 that a client of ours had filed without us, that he'd filed before we filed the lawsuit for him. When she asked the client why he didn't put in all that information, he said, "Well, there wasn't enough room."
Well, that's no excuse. You can't just not put in the information because the boxes are small. If you have more information to provide, you need to provide it. You definitely want to make use of that addendum form. A-D-D-E-N-D-U-M. You're going to want to add all the extra information so that you're as thorough as possible. It's going to make your interview go a whole lot smoother.
