Prior to teaching, Amany served as a law clerk to Judges Mary K. Hoff and Booker T. Shaw of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, and practiced law at Harr & Woods and Spencer Fane Britt & Brown, focusing on complex civil litigation and appellate advocacy.
While in private practice, she received the David J. Dixon award for excellence in appellate advocacy from the Missouri Bar Foundation.
She has a B.A. in political science and history from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a J.D. and M.A. in Public Administration from Saint Louis University.
Amany immigrated to the United States from Egypt as a young child.
