Despite Backlog, Trump Administration Just Fired 20 Immigration Judges

During the 2024 Presidential campaign, Donald Trump disavowed any knowledge of Project 2025.

He repeatedly said that he didn't know anything about Project 2025 and said that his policies would be his own.

But now that he is President, a large percentage of his administration comes from the Heritage Foundation, a right wing group that authored Project 2025.

(Of course, no one should be surprised that Donald Trump is a liar, having told a documented 30,000 lies during his first presidency).

One of the central tenets of Project 2025 is that President Trump should surround himself with loyalists and to get rid of any bureaucrats who stand in the way of his agenda.

Case in point: despite the fact that there are an estimated 3.5 million immigrants currently in deportation proceedings and despite the fact that it takes years and years for immigrants' cases to be resolved, the Trump team fired 20 immigration judges over the past two weeks.

The reason for their firing remains unstated, but it seems clear that Trump and Stephen Miller only want judges who will do their bidding and deport as many immigrants as quickly as possible.

This decision has nothing to do with the merits of the individual judges, who had already been thoroughly vetted by federal authorities, but rather to make sure that only Trump loyalists take the role of an immigration judge.
