What in the hell is going on in immigration? Hi, I'm Jim Hacking immigration lawyer practicing law throughout the United States at our office here in St. Louis, Missouri. This video is for Monday, October 5th, 2020. We are about a month away from one of the most, if not the most important election in my lifetime, certainly I just turned 50 and I can't think of an election that had such consequences than the one that's coming up. I also can't help but think that this has been the craziest election season that we've ever seen, but that's not what this video is about. This video is about what's going on in immigration.
It is just an absolute mess. I used to complain when President Obama and President Bush were in charge of immigration. I thought that things were messed up then, but I take back everything I said about the agency back then. Well, not everything, but they were so much more professional, so much more organized, so much more of a functioning government bureaucracy. Right now it's an absolute shit show. The immigration courts are completely stacked against the immigrants, there is absolutely no due process. People are being deported with very little opportunity to actually make a meritorious claim to stay in the United States. We've seen abuses far and wide, Homeland Security has become nothing more than a bunch of people who want to kick immigrants, all immigrants, out of the United States. The deputy chief of staff just wrote a book about President Trump and about how he just kept trying to think of more and more ways to be mean to immigrants. That's what the people who were running Homeland Security are doing.
You got this guy, Chad Wolf, and another guy named Ken Cuccinelli, who were both appointed illegally to Homeland Security and to the head of USCIS respectively. Neither of them know what they're doing. Neither of them know how to run an agency. It's like when President Trump appointed Rick Perry to be Secretary of Energy, this was a department that Rick Perry wanted to destroy and to get rid of because people in Texas hate the Department of Energy. So same too here with immigration. We have people who hate immigrants running the organization.
So there's a lot going on, a lot of distractions. But these people are running the agencies into the ground. I go down to immigration and it's slow as molasses, they're just slow walking, everything they're trying to do as little as possible. Again, there are some officers there who are well intentioned, who are trying to do the best job they can, but they just aren't getting any kind of support. This latest example of the fee increase that they tried to pull off that they couldn't do correctly because they don't know how, to follow the rules of rulemaking and because they don't know how to appoint people to the head of the agencies. These guys are just total clowns.
I was in a deposition the other day, I'm challenging a guy's denied N-400 and there were four lawyers from Homeland Security there, this is what they're spending their time on, not giving this guy, his citizenship when in my book he clearly deserves it.
So this election has consequences. I hope you vote. I hope you've registered to vote, if not, the deadlines are probably fast approaching. Voting is going on across the country right now. I just voted last week and I think you probably know who I voted for. This is not a political message other than to say that if you love immigrants, you're going to vote against the incumbent. Hopefully that'll be a vote that turns things around and allows us to turn this country around because I've never known this country to be in such a mess as it is right now.
